As professional experts in the field of building design and construction, architects use their unique creative skills to advise their clients regarding the design and construction of their project.
Qualifying as an architect in the United Kingdom involves training for a minimum of seven years in which we complete three key stages:
1. A five-year degree programme on a course that is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
Only when we have completed these 3 stages can we actually call ourselves architects and register as such with the ARB and RIBA. The title ‘architect’ is protected by law so that the public can always be sure that those they intend to employ are properly qualified.
It is compulsory for all registered architects to have professional indemnity insurance to safeguard the public and consumer.
2. A minimum of two years Professional Experience in an architectural practice or other recognised equivalent.
3. This is followed by the Examination in Professional Practice and Management.
